Recent Work - Sid.jpg

As a choreographer Gabriela started by creating pieces for her university student dance group, United Groove. She then had the opportunity to choreograph and present a solo during the Open Art Surgery Workshop in Toronto in 2017. In 2018, she participated in BIG BANG, a contemporary dance training program directed by Stephanie Decourteille, where she began to create a solo. In 2019, she won 3rd place at the Montreal Hot Mess Solo Performance Contest. In her work, she likes to explore mental health, inequality, presence and the use of space and objects through characters, humour, story telling and the dance style whacking.

In 2020, Gabriela was selected as a choreographer for 100Lux and she was in rehearsals for “Scooby-Doo! and The Lost City of Gold”. She was also an active member of Asymmetry Creations directed by Axelle Munezero. She choregraphed and performed in “MOON” an outdoor digital art installation for the safe active circuits of Montreal. She also embarked on a Doing Daily project where she creates dance videos daily named “#dailygabyj”.Gabriela is an artist characterised by originality, versatility and theatricality.

In 2021, she presented her first short dance film 'Playtime' for Bouge d'Ici and co-choreographed with Asymmetry Collective 'Seul.e.s Ensemble: Club Edition' as part of the Montreal Fringe Festival. She co-created Comptines with Acollectif, presented on tour in Bas St Laurent and later at Vue Sur la Relève 2022. She developed a solo, SID, presented at Festival L.O.L, Festival Art-fullness and Festival Fringe.

In 2022, she choreographed TRANSFORMATIONS by Jobel, a series of short dance films. She also worked on her research entitled "Clue", inspired by murder-mysteries. In collaboration with up to 7 dancers, she created a short film, presented a 3-minute piece at Articien and a 15-minute piece at the Art-fulness Whacking Festival.

In 2023, she choreographed for Dans le Fleuve, a multimedia installation by Jobel currently installed in the Bonaventure metro corridor in Montreal. She also embarked on research for a new solo in whacking with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts. She performed her work at Open Body, Strike with Force in Mexico and at the Festival de Danse Contemporaine de Sherbrooke. Gabriela is excited to continue discovering the world of creation especially in collaborative settings.
