GABRIELA JOVIAN-MAZON
Dancer. Choreographer. Story Teller.
As a child, Gabriela Jovian-Mazon started off with Mexican folklore dance in her home town Mississauga, Ontario. This passion has now led her to dance professionally on an American tour with the musical 'Scooby-Doo and The Lost City of Gold', and with Montreal companies such as Ample Man Danse and Asymmetry Creations.
Gabriela initially trained in jazz, ballet, contemporary and musical theatre. When she moved to Montreal to study engineering, she discovered street dance and made the transition to hip-hop, house, break and now specializes in whacking, a club culture style of the 70s. She trained on her own to pursue a career in dance after graduating with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. Since then, she has performed for theatre, musicals, festivals, commercials, TV and film. She participates in international whacking battles, most recently in Italy, Greece and Mexico.
Her choreographic world is characterized as eccentric and theatrical, and is proof of her diverse background. Her work has been presented at the Fringe Festival, Vue sur La Relève, Art-fulness Whacking Festival, Festival de Danse Contemporaine de Sherbrooke and for the City of Montreal.
If she is not performing, choreographing or teaching, she is being creative in some way! In 2022, she completed #dailygabyj, where she created 365 dance videos (follow @dailygabyj on Instagram to see)! Gabriela is an artist characterised by originality, versatility and theatricality always seeking to grow. With contagious creativity, she knows how to transport her audience to a playful and exciting new world. Currently she is seeking to grow into the film & TV industry as a performer as well as a choreographer.
